With New Rules, Wind Power Moves Into Spotlight In PJM

New rules that require power producers to ensure supplies are available year-round are creating incentives to use more wind, and the first test will come next month with PJM’s capacity auction. Previously, wind had been overlooked as a resource during peak summer demand because it fares best in winter. After regulators approved a PJM plan for variable suppliers to team up, however, wind could prove an attractive partner for summer resources such as solar and demand response.
