ISO-NE Expects Sufficient Resources To Meet Peak Summer Demand
April 29, 2015
ISO-New England said it expects to have enough electric resources to meet this summer's highest demand days. At 90-degree weather, the grid operator predicts peak electricity demand to be 26,710 MW after taking into account energy efficiency savings. If a heat wave rolled through the region, delivering repeated days of 94-degree heat, the peak would jump to 29,060 MW. Last year, ISO-NE predicted the summer peak to be 26,660 MW, though it measured much lower at 24,443 MW on July 2. The record for electricity demand in New England came Aug. 2, 2006, when a heat wave drove power use to 28,130 MW.
