GDF SUEZ Subsidiary to Power Municipal Authority of the City of Sunbury

Electricity Provider Expands Presence in Pennsylvania Retail Electricity Market

Houston – Dec. 1, 2009 – GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA, the retail energy business of GDF SUEZ Energy North America, has secured a contract to supply 100 percent of the electricity needs of the Municipal Authority of the City of Sunbury. The City, located in the Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) Electric Utilities territory, signed a multi-year contract that begins in January 2010 when local rate caps expire.Competitive pricing and reliability were key factors in the City of Sunbury’s selection of GDF SUEZ Energy Resources to be its electricity supplier. GDF SUEZ Energy Resources will service all of the city’s 28 separate meters that manage critical infrastructure including drinking water, wastewater, flood control, recycling, and the Municipal Transfer Station.

“The decision was easy,” said Dan Ramer, General Manager, Municipal Authority of the City of Sunbury. “GDF SUEZ Energy Resources is a solid provider that measured favorably against the competition. Their range of product offerings, including renewables, will help us to better manage our electricity spend over time.”

Ten percent of the City of Sunbury’s total electricity load will be attributed to renewable energy and will be purchased in the form of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). RECs represent the green attributes associated with energy produced from a renewable source such as wind or hydro generation. Energy produced through a renewable source results in less environmental impact.

“We have a strong track record of providing electricity supply service to municipalities across the country,” said Bob Wilson, President and CEO, GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA. “We understand that, as a governmental body, the City of Sunbury requires budget certainty and with our solid balance sheet and fixed- price offerings, city officials can count on GDF SUEZ to deliver consistent, quality service on a long-term basis.”

GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA is the second largest non-residential retail energy supplier in the U.S. and currently serves commercial and industrial customers in 11 markets: Delaware, Texas, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C. The company serves over 50,000 accounts for customers having a peak demand ranging from 50 KW to more than 200 MW, with an estimated peak load totaling over 8,000 MW.
