ERCOT Adds Winter Inspectors

December 11, 2023

Buildings in the winter.

ERCOT has announced that a new group of individuals has completed its Certified Weatherization Inspector (CWI) program and will immediately deploy into the field to begin inspections of electric generation units and transmission facilities. The goal is winter preparedness and to strengthen the reliability and resiliency of the ERCOT grid.

The CWI program is an in-depth training course that requires participants to have a deep understanding of weatherization principles, techniques, and standards.

ERCOT is entering its third season of winter weatherization inspections with enhanced requirements for generation and transmission facilities, compared to last winter season. The program is on track to complete 450 generation resource and transmission facility inspections this winter.

The inspection program is one of several ERCOT tools designed to ensure grid reliability and resiliency during winter months, including additional ancillary services, and an expanded firm fuel supply service.
