Deregulation in Texas
Texas became fully deregulated for all commercial and industrial customers in the ERCOT region Jan. 1, 2002 following a 6-month pilot program. As of December 2007 all customers in Texas were considered competitively supplied with the end of the price to beat offers. However, these customers are still eligible to choose a competitive supplier such as GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA for the energy portion of their bill. Transmission and Distribution (T&D) services will continue to be provided to all customers by Transmission and Distribution Service Providers (TDSPs).

What happens when you choose a new electricity supplier:

  1. The new supplier notifies the old supplier and utility that you have changed suppliers.
  2. The new supplier transmits utility account information to the utility in order to enroll you as a customer.
  3. The utility confirms, by letter to you, of your new supplier selection and the date your new service begins.
  4. The actual change of supplier occurs on the meter reading date following a successful enrollment.
